Recently, some MPs complained of the rampant fundraise activities where they are being invited to contribute funds especially among churches.

This comes after Orum Arch deaconry reportedly asked for 5 million shillings contribution from each MP to support preparations for the planned visit of Arch Bishop of church of Uganda, Steven Kazimba Mugalu slated for 11th October 2022.

Meanwhile, Lira Diocese plans to begin banking all offertories collected in the diocese to raise interest to support church activities.

This was revealed yesterday by the Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok during the first mass held at Lira Cathedral parish.

Bishop Wanok noted that much as Lira diocese recently marked its 50th anniversary, it remains cash strapped because they need funds to support different church activities including renovation of church buildings every after three years.

He said they will consider banking the diocese funds at centenary bank for three years and the interest accrued will be used to cater for church activities.

Bishop Wanok said they would have held fundraises but they fear that most people have gotten tired of contributing funds to support the church on many occasions.

The Bishop explained that the church offertory is usually divided into three parts, that is to say; 30% goes to the welfare of priests, 30% for allowances of the catechists and 10% to support diocesan activities.

Some MPs who pleaded for anonymity said they were receiving over 20 invitations for fundraise and are spending between 4 million to 10 million shillings monthly on the same.
