Lira United Carpenters Association is against the move by Lira city council to evict carpenters and timber dealers from the city center.

Lira town clerk Tibihika Theophilus in his 24/03/2023 letter has directed carpenters to relocate their wood workshops from the city center to the timber yard in railways quarter A, Lira city east division.

Tibihika said they have till 1/04/2023 vacate the city center.

The chairperson, Lira United Carpenters Association Patrick Opio said they have not yet been engaged to find out the challenges that have forced them to operate in the city center and their relocation may not be possible.

Opio said some timber dealers and carpenters never got plots at timber yard to operate from since the plots were reportedly bought by some wealthy people who are hiring them out very expensively.

Opio asked the town clerk and other leaders of Lira city council to meet them to listen to their grievances.
