Proprietors of clinics in Kole District are stuck after some people who posed as officials from National Drugs Authority extorted between 200,000 to 300,000 shillings from them with a promise of protecting their clinics from closure.

Nancy Apio who works at Obanga keken drug shop in Ilera Parish, Ayer sub-county in Kole District said that on Tuesday, a group of three people including a woman and two men stormed their premises and claimed that they were from the national drug authority and asked for 300,000 shillings after inspection, threatening to close their drug shop and confiscate all their drugs.

Apio said she called her boss who sent 200,000 shillings which she gave to the trio.

They were later seen drinking alcohol by locals in the nearby area.

They however vanished upon noticing that locals had cited them.

Regulatory officer of the National Drug Authority, Lira branch, David Eseru called for vigilance among locals about people impersonating officials from the National Drug Authority with the aim of defrauding them.
