The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has rejected a list of people selected by Alebtong district local government to spearhead the upcoming national housing and population census set to kick off in May this year.

The list is composed of people who include; Ogwal Pollino Bua, the district census officer, Omuleru Moses, assistant district census officer and Arop Stephen, an IT officer.

The trio was supposed to attend a national training to prepare them ahead of the exercise but were blocked from the same.

Chris Mukiza, the executive director of (UBOS) consequently wrote to Alebtong district local government on 12.4.2024 about a training of district census officers and assistant district census officers that was conducted early this month at Speak Resort Munyonyo, Kampala.

He said Ogwal Pollino Bua and Omuleru Moses from Alebtong district were blocked from this training due to lack of requisite qualification.

Mukiza added that neither Ogwal Pollino Bua nor Omuleru Moses is a district planner or statistician, a requirement for people filling these posts.

He asked the Chief Administrative Officer of Alebtong to formulate a new list of persons to take up these positions.

Effort by Voice of Lango to speak to Alebtong district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Franco Olaboro over the matter was futile as his phone was switched off by press time.

The National Population and Housing Census 2024, will be done in 10 days starting 9th May 2024 to 19th May 2024.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, officially launched the activity on December 12th, 2023.

The exercise that is done after every 10 years was last conducted in Uganda in August 2014.
