Dokolo Woman dies after setting herself on fire

A 50 years old Woman of Okwalongween, Dokolo District has died this evening from the injuries she sustained after setting herself on fire Saturday morning.

Hellen Ajok, 50, a resident of Ajony Abwote village, Akwang parish, Dokolo District according to an area resident, allegedly picked a jerrycan of petrol which she had in her possession, covered herself with banana dried leaves, and poured onto her body  petrol before setting fire.

Local residents, upon seeing the fire, ran to the seen and immediately retrieved her body from the fire and rushed her to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment but later died of the injuries she sustained.

Peter Okutu the LC3 Chairperson of Okwalongween Sub county, told Voice of Lango FM that, the neighbors of the deceased intimated to him that the latter, complained about her children who are working in distanced areas of failing to visit home her at home.

Okutu said another reason the deceased complained about was a prolonged illness which she was suffering from as a result of suspected poisoning.

The husband to the deceased, Moses Omodo who is also the area LC1 Chairperson told Voice of Lango FM that he was surprised by what happened because they never had any misunderstanding between him and the wife.

The GISO of Okwalongwen Jackson Elelu wondered why Ajok who is a devoted Christian committed suicide.
