Lira City Budget Drops by 17 Billion

Lira City Council budget for the 2023/24 financial year has dropped from 55 billion shillings in financial year 2023/2024 to 38 billion shillings.
Out of the 38 Billion shillings budget approved by council Thursday afternoon 6.4Billion will be raised from local revenue to support the budget meanwhile the rest will be received from central government.
While presenting the budget at a council meeting held at Lira Palms Garden, Lira City Council Secretary for Finance and Administration James Omara Elem attributed a reduction in the budget to the completion of most of the USMID projects.
17.7 billion shillings has been allocated for education, 4.9, administration, 4.7billion for health, 3.9 billion, planning, 555 Million, production, 758 million, 256 million, and community based services, among others.
Lira City revenue collection increased from 1.8 billion in FY 2021/2023, to 2.5 billion in FY 2022/23, while this financial year, it increased to 3.6 billion shillings according to Lira city mayor, Sam Atul.
Atul said they expect their revenue collection to increase to 4 billion shillings next financial year.
Oluma Hagard the youth councillor for Lira city council said the budget that was allocated for production and capital development has not caused much impact on locals.
But civil servants of the production department decried understaffing which is affecting their work.
Speaker Okwir Patrick tasked the acting Lira City Clerk John Kashada Stephen on routine monitoring of the production department.
