The lawyer representing Dr. Eng. Michael Odongo Okune and others are preparing to petition court, seeking an order to stay execution of yesterday’s court ruling and allow them to proceed with the coronation of Odongo Okune.
Yesterday’s ruling barred Odongo Okune and Amb. Dickson Ogwang Okul from being installed as Lango paramount chief or to engage in any activity to portray Lango paramount chief.
Lawyer, Okwir Patrick, who doubles as spokesperson, Lango Cultural Institution expressed fear that justice Phillip Odoki’s ruling that stopped Odongo Okune’s installation could spark various challenges in Lango, a reason they want something to be done to stop its execution.
Okwir said they are considering appealing the matter in the court of appeal for fresh hearing.
However, Okwir said since the process of appeal could delay, they are seeking to have court stop execution of yesterday’s ruling through Lira high court, failure of which they will further petition the court of appeal.
However, there are reports indicating that Odongo Okune and his group this morning went ahead to install him as Lango paramount chief at Lango Cultural Centre much as, Okwir denied knowledge of the same.
Police from Lira central police station this morning dispersed an emergency council meeting organized by Lango cultural institution at Lango cultural center, during which Odongo Okune was reportedly installed.
