A section of residents from Oyam South have accused Minister of Gender, Betty Amongi, who is also their Member of Parliament, of abandoning them in favor of contesting for the Lira City Woman MP seat.
During a press briefing at Pacific Grand Hotel in Lira City, locals from Aber, Minakulu, Loro, and Myene Sub Counties expressed their dissatisfaction, claiming that Amongi had already bid them farewell and introduced a replacement for her in Oyam North. This comes at a time when they had expected more support from her.
Fred Obuku from Loro Town Council said that Amongi should resign as Oyam South MP instead of continuing to represent the constituency under circumstances where she has seemingly already said goodbye to the voters.
Opio Charles, from Aber Sub County, suggested that the Minister should redirect all government development funds intended for Oyam South back to the local community, rather than using them to develop Lira City.
Odoc David, from Myene Sub County, called on former leaders from Oyam South, such as Lagada Beatrice, Nelson Adea Akar, and Isa Otto Amiza, to step forward and contest for the Oyam South seat.
Okello Geoffrey, from Adagayela in Minakulu Sub County, said that they would petition Parliament regarding Minister Amongi’s decision to leave her constituency before completing her term.
When approached for her comment on the matter, Minister Amongi referred us to the voters she claimed to have already bid farewell to.
