Leaders in Lango are making extensive preparations for the anticipated visit of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, which is set to take place from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
The President’s tour is part of a nationwide effort to assess the implementation of key government programs, including the Parish Development Model, Emyoga, and the Youth Livelihood Program among others.
On January 25, 2025, Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua and State Minister for Investment Evelyn Anite called for a meeting with ministers from Lango, MPs, RDCs, LCVs, CAOs, RPC, NRM leaders, and security personnel. The meeting is ongoing at Lira City Council Hall to coordinate logistics and ensure a successful visit by the President.
Obua, who is also the MP for Ajuri County, confirmed that President Museveni’s tour will begin on Tuesday and conclude on Thursday.
The President’s schedule includes visits to model farmers in Amolatar, Kole, and Lira districts on Tuesday.
Later, he will officially open the Lango Presidential Skilling Hub and then engage with Lango leaders in Kwania District.
On Thursday, the President will attend a rally at Alanyi Primary School, Abako Sub County, Alebtong District.
On Friday, he will visit the Barlonyo Memorial Center and participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Akii Bua Stadium. However, these details are still subject to confirmation from the President’s tour team.
David Kennedy Odongo, the Chairman of Alebtong District, along with other Lango LCV chairpersons, expressed their hopes for the President to address some urgent regional needs.
They are requesting a presidential directive for upgrading Alebtong Health Center IV to a district hospital, as well as the connection of electricity to Angetta and Adwir Sub Counties. Additionally, they are seeking improvements in the region’s road infrastructure.
Geoffrey Alex Ogwal Adyebo, Chairman of Kwania District, said he plans to remind the President of a prior pledge to provide a bus for Ikwera Girls’ School to replace a vehicle that was damaged by the army.
Ogwal also hopes the President will support the procurement of a new ferry for the Nambieso-Abeja landing site and provide funding for the construction of the district headquarters, which is expected to cost Shs 6 billion.
