Gov’t Urged to Work with Lango War Claimants on Cattle/Livestock Compensation

By Denis Okello
The Lango War Claimants’ Association has called on the Government to work directly with them in overseeing the cattle compensation process for individuals affected by past insurgencies.
This appeal comes amid growing concerns over irregularities and delays in the compensation process, which the Association attributes to district leaderships in the Lango sub-region.
According to Okello Terrance James Mark, Chairperson of the Lango War Claimants’ Association, the delays are largely due to inefficiencies at the district level. These include poor handling of data cards and a lack of transparency in managing the compensation process.
The Association is now advocating for the responsibility of issuing data cards and disseminating key information to be transferred to them. They believe this would help curb fraud and accelerate the compensation process.
Moses Ogwang Adonyo, the Association’s Regional Coordinator, revealed that during a meeting held on July 17, 2025, with representatives from the Office of the President and the Attorney General, it was discovered that many districts had failed to submit completed data cards—significantly stalling progress.
Ogwang also raised concerns about errors in submitted data cards, including instances of sections being whitewashed. He cited cases where unscrupulous individuals tampered with claimants’ bank account numbers, replacing them with their own in an attempt to fraudulently benefit from the compensation.
