The Lango Paramount Chief, Dr. Eng. Michael Odongo Okune, has warned politicians against mortgaging or selling family property to fund their political ambitions in the upcoming elections.

Odongo Okune advised aspiring politicians to seek campaign resources in ways that do not compromise family values or result in the loss of family assets.

He argued that anyone genuinely seeking political leadership should not have to sell property to raise money to buy votes. Instead, he said, a politician’s manifesto should be enough to convince the electorate.

The Paramount Chief also cautioned voters against supporting politicians who spend large sums of money during campaigns, saying such individuals often lack the true spirit of leadership and may prioritize recovering their personal investments over serving the community.

Importantly, he urged those seeking political office to shun corruption and uphold the values of the Lango people—values which, he said, reject corruption. He cited the late former President Dr. Apollo Milton Obote as a figure who embodied these principles.
