Lira District Chairman, RCM Okello Orik, has raised concern over the district’s ongoing poor academic performance, cautioning that the situation may worsen if parents do not actively support the school feeding program.

Okello Orik noted that only a small number of parents are currently contributing food items to schools, making it difficult to provide meals for learners. He stressed that children cannot concentrate effectively on an empty stomach and called on parents to take greater responsibility in supporting their children’s education through food contributions.

Meanwhile, the government is preparing to launch a national school feeding program targeting primary schools countrywide. The initiative aims to boost learners’ concentration and improve academic outcomes.

In Lira District alone, an estimated UGX 9.2 million is needed to implement the program successfully.
