State House Anti-Corruption Unit to Prosecute Lango War Compensation Fraudsters

The State House Anti-corruption Unit has committed to ensure all people involved in the misuse of cattle compensation funds meant for Lango war claimants are duly prosecuted.

Samuel Arinaitwe the State House Anti-corruption Unit legal officer said after getting reports on misuse of cattle compensation funds, they launched serious investigations to ensure the culprits are brought to book.

Arinaitwe said their investigation so far shows that the same people implicated in misuse of cattle compensation in Lango were also involved in the same in Teso and Acholi.

At a meeting of Lango stakeholders on Sunday, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni most leaders decried theft of cattle compensation funds that they said started from top government officials and trickled down lower leaders.

Last month, Otuke grade one magistrate court, remanded three individuals accused of fraudulently obtaining Shs1.5billion from war claimants seeking cattle compensation from the government.

The suspects are Obua Denis, Okeng Joel, and Ayo Jona that are under investigation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.

They were arraigned last week before Magistrate Irene Aber on charges of theft and unlawful possession of national identity cards belonging to other war claimants.

The IDs were allegedly used to process fraudulent compensation claims.

Prosecution says the trio illegally accessed bank details of mostly elderly claimants and siphoned off compensation funds.
