Lira Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Lawrence Emmy Egole, has threatened to bar politicians and their supporters from organizing processions within Lira City.

As political campaigns intensify for the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament seat — with Minister of Gender, Betty Amongi Akena, and Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, both in the race — RCC Egole said he would not allow politicians to move through the city in large processions.

Speaking on Voice of Lango’s morning talk-back show Wimeja hosted by Elvis Ajwika, Egole warned that such processions could be infiltrated by wrong elements, citing a recent incident where a supporter of Dr. Aceng was reportedly assaulted by a group of people during a time when Minister Amongi was reinstating her alleged defaced campaign posters in Lira City.

He added that these processions disrupt traffic flow and increase the risk of accidents.

Egole also denied allegations by Minister Amongi that he and others were responsible for removing her campaign posters.

He further claimed he had been intimidated by the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, over the same issue.

Additionally, Egole cautioned the public against gathering and eating at politicians’ homes, warning that ill-intentioned individuals could use such occasions to poison unsuspecting guests.

Meanwhile, Lira City NRM Publicity Secretary, Jacob Ocen, also denied Minister Amongi’s claims that supporters of Dr. Aceng were responsible for removing her posters.

Minister Amongi, together with her husband, UPC party president Jimmy Akena Obote, have held two processions in Lira City this year — one when she changed her polling station from Oyam South to Lira City, and another while reinstating her campaign posters.

On the other hand, Minister Dr. Aceng has held one procession this year, during her installation as patron of the Lango United Motorcycle Boda-Boda Association (LUMBA).
