14 Candidates Nominated for Mayoral Positions in Lira City and Apac Municipality

A total of 14 candidates have completed nomination to contest for the position of Mayor in the two City Divisions of Lira and Apac Municipality, following the concluded nomination process by the Electoral Commission.
The five candidates, cleared to contest for the mayoral seat in Lira City East Division, include:
• Denis Peter Odongo Odul – the incumbent Councilor for Lira City East B and the UPC flag bearer.
• Emmy Joe Odongo – the NRM flag bearer and former Central Division LC3 Chairman.
• Moses Ocip – former Chairman of Lira Central Division-Independent.
• Rev. James Awany – Independent candidate.
• George Acar alias Cata – Independent candidate.
In addition, 124 candidates have been nominated to contest for various positions across Lira City wards.
Seven candidates have been nominated for the mayoral race in Lira City West Division. They are:
• Emmanuel Ebong Opeto – former Chairman of Ojwina Division and UPC flag bearer.
• George Rashid Opio – NRM flag bearer.
• Ojuka Anthony – Independent.
• Isaac Ogwal Ogweng – Independent.
• Alany Charles – NEED Party flag bearer.
In Apac Municipality, three candidates have been nominated for the mayoral race:
• Patrick Ongom Eyul – the incumbent Mayor and UPC flag bearer.
• Mackline Odongo – NRM flag bearer.
• Awany Andrew – Independent candidate.
The nomination process was officially confirmed as successfully concluded by Ipeto Aggrey James, the Lira City Returning Officer.
Meanwhile, in Apac, the District Returning Officer Norah Nambosa cautioned all candidates against conducting early campaigns, warning that it would be a violation of Electoral Commission guidelines.
Patrick Ongom Eyul the Apac Municipality, UPC flag bearer pledged to prioritize the construction of a main market and spearhead other development projects.
Denis Peter Odongo Odul, Lira City East, UPC flag bearer promised to improve road infrastructure, education, and healthcare services.
Emmy Joe Odongo the Lira City East, NRM flag bearer pledged to promote development and ensure proper implementation of government programs for the benefit of residents.
