Floods cut off Aloi Ongom bridge linking Lira and Alebtong district

Heavy rains have caused severe flooding, washing away the Aloi Ongom Bridge — a critical link between Alebtong and Lira districts.
The disruption has significantly affected transport and movement, forcing road users to divert through longer alternative routes such as Agali–Awei–Abako or Akura.

Alebtong District Chairman, Mr. David Kennedy Odongo, stated that while a technical assessment of the road has been conducted, no immediate intervention can be made since the bridge falls under the jurisdiction of the central government.
He revealed that previous appeals to the Ministry of Works and Transport for road rehabilitation have yielded no tangible results.
Eng. Anthony Okucu, the Senior Engineer from the Ministry of Works responsible for the Lango sub-region, confirmed that he had reported the damage to the relevant authorities.
However, he cited financial constraints as a major challenge limiting a timely response.
The continued inaccessibility of the bridge has raised concerns over the economic and social impact on affected communities.
