The Oyam District Education Department has launched an investigation into two secondary school teachers suspected to be ghost workers after their names were found on the government payroll, despite having no traceable records in their respective schools.

According to the District Education Officer (DEO), Mr. David Adea, preliminary investigations have identified the two alleged ghost teachers as Jennifer Kitesi of Otwal Secondary School and Diana Kigonzi of Ngai Secondary School.

Adea stated that both individuals are non-existent in the schools and have never been part of their teaching staff.

He said he tasked the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to investigate how these names were entered into the government payroll.

Mr. Janani Okot, the current head teacher of Ngai Secondary School, confirmed that a thorough review of school records dating back to 2019 showed no evidence of Diana Kigonzi ever having taught at the institution.

Similarly, Ms. Akullu Jennifer, the former head teacher of Otwal Secondary School, stated that the name Jennifer Kitesi does not appear anywhere in the school’s records. She affirmed that the matter is under active investigation.

When contacted for comment, Oyam District Principal Human Resource Officer, Mr. Francis Ayoo, said he was still in Kampala and unable to provide details.

In the past, former Oyam Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. William Komakec, revealed that there were 94 ghost workers in the district appearing on the government payroll.
