Two Apac General Hospital Staff Arrested Over Negligence After Drugs Damaged by Rain

Two staff members of Apac General Hospital have been arrested following an incident in which a consignment of drugs supplied by the National Medical Stores (NMS) was destroyed by rain.
The arrest was ordered by the Apac Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Andrew Onyuk, after it was discovered that the drugs, including 42 boxes of mama kits and eight boxes of Jik, were left outside unattended and exposed to rainfall.
According to the Assistant RDC, Mr. Jonal Okot, the suspects — hospital storekeeper Atoo Zita and her assistant Muno Eddy — are currently being detained at Apac Central Police Station.

“It is alleged that the two individuals approached the Medical Superintendent of the hospital requesting money to pay offloaders and porters to carry the supplies to the stores. It has always been the practice for porters to handle such work,” Mr. Okot explained.
He condemned the act as “inhuman and irresponsible,” saying the suspects should have first secured the medicines before seeking payment.
“We condemn this behavior in the strongest terms. They will be charged accordingly,” Mr. Okot added.
Reports indicate that the two staff members allegedly locked up the drug store and disappeared, leaving the supplies outside, where they were soaked by rain.
Apac General Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. James Okullu confirmed the incident, saying the suspects will face the law and be held accountable for their negligence.
