Lira

Different leaders have raised concern over the absence of Lira District chairman Richard Max Okello Orik who has not appeared in public for the past one week.

Okello Orik was last seen in public a week ago when he was in his office, although his vehicle has been seen being driven by his driver.

Lira District vice chairman Bonny Omara on Monday said Okello Orik was sick and had taken leave to seek treatment.

Omara denied rumors that Okello Orik was arrested over defilement of a minor way back in 2006.

The clan leader of Olake, Paul Ojok Oyaka where Okello Orik hails from said he heard about the concerns raised about the absence of Okello Orik yesterday and he got in touch with his family members who told him that he is sick.

The chairperson of district chairpersons in Lango who doubles as Alebtong District LCV chairman David Kennedy Odongo said he engaged the family of Okello Orik and he was told that he was seeking treatment in Kampala.

Odongo DK said he will also make a follow up visit to Okello Orik to ascertain his condition.

According to unconfirmed reports, Okello Orik was allegedly summoned by police to Kampala last week in relation to the case filed on 13/12/2006 at Gulu Central Police Station, vide CRB 3709/2006.

The deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Luke Owoyesigyire when contacted for comments on the matter, referred Voice of Lango to the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga

However, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said Okello Orik was not under their custody.

Enanga advised people who may be concerned about the absence of Okello Orik to file a case of disappearance of a person for police to launch investigation into the same.

The spokesperson, Directorate of Public Prosecution Jackeline Okui said she had not yet got information on Okello Orik’s file and promised to get back to our reporter in due time.
