{"id":5639,"date":"2024-02-27T18:31:37","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T15:31:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vol.co.ug\/?p=5639"},"modified":"2024-02-27T18:36:33","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T15:36:33","slug":"lango-cultural-foundation-wants-court-to-block-election-of-new-won-nyaci","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vol.co.ug\/index.php\/2024\/02\/27\/lango-cultural-foundation-wants-court-to-block-election-of-new-won-nyaci\/","title":{"rendered":"Lango Cultural Foundation wants court to block election of new Won-Nyaci"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By <\/strong>Denish Ongora and Bonny Otim Ogwal (editor@vol.co.ug)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lira City.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lira High Court has set Thursday 29<sup>th<\/sup> February 2024 as the date in which it will hear the application for an interim order (injunction) seeking to block the election of the new paramount chief of Lango.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The application has been fixed for hearing on Thursday this week by the Lira High Court registrar Ssalamu Ngobi according to court documents seen by Voice of Lango FM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday Lango Cultural Foundation and six other clan heads dragged the members of the Lango Cultural Foundation electoral commission and other clean heads seeking to restrain them from conducting the planned 1<sup>st<\/sup> March 2024 elections of the new paramount chief to replace Yosam Odur Ebii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The council of Owitong (clan heads) in their meeting chaired by Willy Omodo Omodo Kagere, overturned the decision of Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii who sacked the 7 member electoral commission and gave them a green light to conduct the elections on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their application number 20 and 21 of 2024 field at Lira High Court, the applicants including Lango Cultural Foundation, James Robert Ajal the prime minister of Lango Cultural Foundation, Dila Benson Walter the speaker of Lango Cultural Foundation, Obia Denis Acila, the awitong of Atek Onote, Benjamin Okii the awitong of Okii bura and Robert Tile the awitong of Atek Keno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their sworn affidavits, the septet have asked court to declare the planned election of Won Nyaci scheduled for 1<sup>st<\/sup> March 2024 illegal and declare it null and void.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The respondents in the matter include: Eng Dr Moses Micheal Odongo Okune, the awitong of Okar Omwono, Mr George Ojwang Opota the awitong of Omolo Acol Odyek onywal iceng, Willy Omodo Omodo the awitong of Pedi Wibyeacel also the newly elected speaker of Lango cultural foundation, Tom Otim the electoral commission chief and his members including Hamza Okello, Vincent Oling, Beatrice Catherine Amongi Lagada, Elem John, Ben Ogwete Otim and Peter Obong Acuda who are all members of the disbanded Lango cultural foundation Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to Voice of Lango FM Thursday evening, the Minister for information at Lango Cultural Foundation Jacob Ocen, says they have gone to court to seek justice because the respondents are committing many illegalities while using the name of Lango Cultural Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Ocen, even the planned 1st March 2024 election is illegal and they want court to pronounce itself on it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Denish Ongora and Bonny Otim Ogwal (editor@vol.co.ug) Lira City.
