People of Lango Sub Region are most likely to part with 30 million shillings to pay for a trophy that was recently won by Lango province team in the fufa drum tournament, but reportedly got damaged in a recent road accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 25th<\/sup> May 2024, a Coaster vehicle number UBL 851Z belonging to Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery which  was transporting Lango province players from a friendly match in Dokolo district had a head on collision with a Lorry Fuso number UBA 200J in Abutadi along Lira-Dokolo highway, killing three people on the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trophy was won by Lango province on 23rd<\/sup> March 2024 after beating Busoga Province 2-1 in the finals of the 4th edition of the fufa drum played at MTN Philip Omondi Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trophy was then brought to Lango and welcomed at the Mayors\u2019 Gardens, Lira city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The speaker of council of owitong of Lango Willy Omodo Kagera received the trophy on behalf of Lango cultural institution and handed it over to Lira City Council mayor, Sam Atul who kept it in his office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, according to report, some leaders of Lango province picked up the trophy from the mayors\u2019 office and have been traversing Lango Sub region in a trophy tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) northern region chairman Moses Opio said they are not aware of any damage to Lango province fufa drum trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lira City mayor, Sam Atul said the executive of Lango Province had picked the trophy from his office which has not been returned up to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coordinator of Lango province Charles Opio Olol who is said to be among people who picked up the trophy from the mayor\u2019s office said he was not aware that the trophy was damaged in the accident, adding that he has just been discharged from hospital  following the accident in which he was injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team Manager ofLango Province Ivan Opeto said he is also not sure of whether the trophy was damaged or not in the recent accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fufa competitions director, Aisha Nalule also said they are not aware about damage caused to Lango province trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nalule referred Voice of Lango to Dan Obote Kagere a FUFA Executive Committee Member on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obote Kagere said the fufa drum trophy is best kept at the fufa regional office Fufa like it was done by West Nile Province for safety purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obote Kagere added that the fufa policy dictates that for a trophy to be moved from one place to another, it must be transported separately by fufa officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the trophy was procured at $7,000<\/strong> which is about UGX 25.9<\/strong> million and will have to be bought and replaced in case of damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obote Kagere wondered where Lango province players were sourced from to participate in the friendly match since Fufa had not directed any club to release players to participate in any game involving Lango Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the Fufa executives who preferred anonymity said Lango Province could spend over 30 million shillings to buy another trophy due to changes in prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
