MPs Auma, Okot eat big in new Parliament Committee reshuffle

Four Members of Parliament from Lango sub region have been appointed as Chairperson and deputy Chairpersons of the different sectoral committees of Parliament in the new designations which were approved by Parliament Thursday Morning in a sitting chaired by Speaker Annet Anita Among.

On Wednesday evening, during the Central Executive Meeting of the National Resistance Movement party held at State House Entebbe, the top most organ of the party dropped some Chairpersons and deputies of the committees and replaced them with new ones.

This follows reports of budget corruption in the committees. Three MPs inlcuing Cissy Namujju(Lwengo Womab), Yusuf Mutembeli (Bunyole) Paul Akama ( Busiki) have been committed to the high court to stand trial in corruption related charges.

In the new appointments, Lira District Woman Member of Parliament Linda Agnes Auma was appointed as the new Chairperson of the Agriculture Committee.

Auma, who is serving her first term in Parliament and has been the vice chairperson of the same committee will now replace Abim District Woman MP Janet Okori Moe.

Northern Uganda Youth MP Boniface Henry Okot has been appointed as the new vice chairperson of Trade, Industries and cooperatives commitee. Okot will replace Omoro District Woman MP Catherine Lamwaka.

In the other designations, Kole North MP Dr Samuel Opio Acuti has been retained as the Vice Chairperson of Health Committee meanwhile the Kwania County MP who has recently appointed as the vice coordinator for Patriotic League of Uganda in charge Lango has been retained as the Vice Chairperson of ICT and National Guidance.

Speaking to Voice of Lango Wednesday afternoon Linda Agness Auma said she didn’t lobby for the position but quickly thanked the CEC for the trust bestowed on her. She says Agricultural sector is a very sensitive sector and will ensure that there is equality in the distribution of resources to all parts of the Country.

Auma to pledged to serve diligently and ensure the Country’s back born sector helps the nation to accelerate her grow through mechanization and agro-industrilisation.

On his part, Dr Samuel Opio Acuti says currently the health sector receives about 3 Trillion shillings and that they will play their oversight role to ensure people receive quality health care and medical supplies delivered in time.

In the next two years Opio says they want Parliament to pass two three bills which include the alcohol bill, Health Professional Bill and amend the National Drug Authority Act.
