There was a somber mood in Olor-kede village, Abongorwot parish, Agali Sub County in Lira district yesterday after a man hacked his wife to death and set himself and the wife’s dead body a blaze, burning both of them to ashes.
Calvin Otim a local of the area identified the deceased woman as Barbra Akech, of Oyima Ngila clan, aged 20 while the man has been identified as Odongo a local of Okwang Sub County in, Otuke district and belonged to Abwor Bako Omilo clan.
Otim said Odongo had an affair with Akech Barbra but he was earlier arrested and imprisoned.
After completing his jail sentence, Odongo went to Akech Barbra’s parents’ home in Agali Sub County and they started living together.
Otim said Odongo on Saturday night bought a match box and returned home and late in the night, he hacked Akech to death in suspected misunderstanding.
Otim said they suspect that Odongo later burnt Akech’s clothes before setting their house which contained Akech’s body a blaze, then entered the same house and got burnt together with his wife.
Their bodies were discovered on Sunday morning by locals.
Otim said police visited the crime scene and it was agreed that the clan of the deceased will cater for burial expense of their children.
Effort to speak to police over the matter was futile by press time.
