Police recover stolen AK47 in Oyam district

Police in Oyam district has recovered a gun that was reportedly stolen by a security guard in Minakulu Sub County.
Last week, it was reported that the AK 47 gun was stolen by a security guard attached to Samurai Protective Services identified as Okwir Patrick at a petrol station in Mitcoo market.
In an operation conducted by Oyam DPC SP Edison Muhangi the gun was recovered and one Jasper Along was arrested while Okwir Patrick managed to escape in Ocamucut, Oyoro Parish Myene County Oyam district.
Oyam DPC SP Edison Muhangi confirmed that they recovered the gun and a case of gun theft has been registered as CRB 80/2024 at Minakulu police station.
He called for vigilance among the public in fighting crime, adding that another gun that was stolen from Minakulu town council has not yet been recovered.
Thadeo Okello, the councilor of Kulu Abura Parish in Minakulu Sub County thanked police, local leaders and locals for working together to recover this gun.
Moses Ocen,the LC1 defense secretary of Wirao village said they are registering a surge in theft cases, adding that last year he lost 25 bags of soya beans.
Some of the suspects who have been arrested in connection with theft of the gun said Okwir Patrick had told them that they were being registered to work for one Akena.
