Speaker of parliament Annette Anita Among has tasked the state minister for works and transport Musa Ecwero to present a report on the progress of repair of Karuma Bridge, a ferry, and rehabilitation of roads that are in poor state in northern Uganda within two weeks.
The speaker’s ruling came after discussion of a report presented by the parliamentary physical infrastructure committee at the northern regional parliamentary sitting in Gulu city on the status of roads, bridges, railways and airfields.
Maruzi North MP, Okello Nelson Lemba asked the government to establish another ferry at Masindi port to link Kungu in Apac district to Kiryandongo, since the current ferry has low capacity to accommodate heavy traffic.
MP Lemba also called for rehabilitation of Zengebbe to Nakasongola road that has been cut off by floods.
Minister, Ecwero in response said repair works on Karuma Bridge has commenced and government plans to work on several roads that are in poor state but added that he will table a detailed report on the matter at a later date.
Ecwero said they also have a plan to construct another bridge on Karuma falls near the current bridge.
