6,574 teenage pregnancies registered in Oyam district within a year

At least 6,574 cases of teenage pregnancies were registered in Oyam district within a period of one year.
The assistant district health officer of Oyam, Caroline Agaro revealed the matter in an interview with our reporter.
Otwal Sub County registered the highest cases of teenage pregnancies in the district, standing at 691, Kamdini followed with 624 cases, Minakulu Town Council registered 587 cases, Iceme had 530 cases, Acaba 489, Loro 478, Aber 419, Ngai 411, Abok 389, Loro town council 336, Oyam town council 313, Aleka 311, Iceme town council 293, Minakulu 268, and Kamdini town- council had 189 cases of teenage pregnancies.
Agaro attributed the trend to laxity by parents to offer moral guidance to their daughters.

According to a report by Communication for Development Foundation Uganda, over 23000 teenage girls in 2021 visited various health facilities in Lango sub region for antenatal services in 8 months, Oyam still registered the highest cases of teenage pregnancies with 4,448 cases, followed by Lira with 3,871, Kole registered 3,186, Dokolo 2,363, Kwania 2,332 and Alebtong 2,190.
Amolatar registered 1,939 cases, Apac and Otuke registered 1,714 and 1,506 cases, respectively.
