A 16-year-old student from Inomo Secondary School in Kwania District has taken his own life after a dispute with his brother over payment they received for farm labor.
The deceased was identified as Aguma Douglas a local of Alikiping, Aluka Parish, Inomo Sub County.
Tonny Opio, the father of Aguma, said his son had a disagreement with his brother, Job Olung, after Olung found Aguma asking their mother for money — part of the payment they had received for using oxen to plough a garden.
During the ensuing argument, Olung grabbed Aguma’s smartphone and smashed it on the ground, damaging it.
Opio said a family meeting was later held, during which Olung was fined Shs400,000/-.
Aguma was later found hanging on a tree and efforts to rescue him failed.
Charles Ogwal the LCI chairman of Alikiping Aluka Parish, confirmed the incident.
A police officer from Inomo Police Station, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the body of the deceased was handed over to the family for burial.
