A man in Kole District is under investigation for allegedly accepting money to cover up the defilement of his 15-year-old niece.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 20, 2025, in Apuriparo village, Abur Parish, Ayer Sub-county, Kole District.
The suspect, identified as Augustine Ngole, a drug shop owner in the area, allegedly defiled the minor and fled upon realizing that the matter had come to light.
According to reports, Jimmy Abanya, an uncle to the victim, negotiated with the suspect and allegedly received a payment of Shs200,000 on April 21, 2025, in a bid to suppress the case.
Tonny Ojok, the father of the victim, later reported the matter to Alemi Police Outpost, prompting police to launch investigations.
Moses Emwony, a resident of Apuriparo, confirmed that Abanya had received money from the suspect.
Isaac Tenga, the LC1 chairman of Apuriparo village, also acknowledged receiving a report on the case, which he has since forwarded to the police.
When contacted, Patrick Jimmy Okema, the police spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, said he had not yet received an official report but pledged to follow up on the case.
