UPC leaders express fear that disagreements could derail party development

Leaders of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) have expressed concern that internal disagreements could derail the party’s growth.
Speaking during a memorial prayer for the late former president, Dr. Apollo Milton Obote recently, the party leaders decried growing divisions within UPC.
David Ojok Zulu, the party chairperson for Apac District who was recently appointed as acting Lango Regional Vice Chairperson in charge of mobilization, called for the dismissal of what he termed as “enemies of the party.”
Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi Akena, accused some party members of having a hand in the disqualification of UPC Party President Jimmy Akena from nomination as the party’s presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
Kole South MP and UPC flag bearer Peter Ocen Akalo also urged members to distance themselves from individuals undermining the party’s interests.
UPC Lango Regional General Secretary, Ongura Bonny, called for unity and warned leaders against making independent decisions without the party president’s authorization.
Although Party President Jimmy Akena appointed Ojok Zulu as Lango Regional Vice Chairperson, he did not respond to the concerns raised over internal disagreements within the party.
