Lira City
Lango parliamentary group has written to different government offices about their planned demonstration on Saturday over delays by government to reconstruct the dilapidated Lira-Kamdini road.
The chairperson Lango parliamentary group also Kole woman MP Judith Alyek Odongo on Monday has wrote a letter to the inspector general of police Martins Okoth Ochola informing him about the planned demonstration in line with public order management Act which requires that police be notified of such gatherings before it is sanctioned.
Other offices that the same letter has been copied to are; that of the minister of works and transport Gen. Katumba Wamala and Executive Director of UNRA Allen Kagina.
Alyek Judith in the letter said they have for long engaged the government and UNRA to work on the road but if fell on deaf ears.
She notes that last year the Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja told parliament that works on this road would commence in August 2021 but nothing has been done to that effect.
While addressing the press at parliament, Otuke East MP Julius Achon expressed disappointment with government for sidelining Lango sub region in matters of development much as the region has been overwhelmingly voting for the ruling government.
How ever the Spokesperson of Uganda Police Force Fred Enanga told Voice of Lango that the MPs are self centered and wants to take advantage politicize the issue of the road. He says what he knows is that the program is awaiting for clearance from World Bank.
According to Enanga the MPs should be straight forward and stop engaging in acts that will disrupt people and cause other innocent people problems.
Enanga says demonstrating by holding procession from Lira to Kamdini will not help and people should desist from joining the MPs in their demonstration.
