Former Oyam South Member of Parliament Isa Otto Amiza has vowed to continue advocating for reconstruction of Lira-Kamdini road that has for long been in a poor state until government upgrades it.
Isa Otto Amiza was arrested Monday morning from his home in Loro Town council, Oyam district and taken to North Kyoga regional police headquarters Erute where he was held for the whole day and interrogated for masterminding the mobilization of a planned demonstration over the poor status of the road.
According to reports, the legislator’s mobile phone and gum boot were reportedly confiscated by police.
Addressing a joint press conference at Silver Peak Hotel Lira Wednesday where the representatives of well-wishers handed him a pair of gumboots and a Techno Camon 18 premier smart phone worth UGX 855000, Otoo says he will continue fighting for the rights of the people of Lango who are voters and revenue contributors to the country.
Jennifer Alwoch who led the campaign to raise funds to buy a mobile hand set for Otto Isa said the phone and gumboot are meant to ease Otto’s work of advocacy.
Sarah Awor Angweri, the workers representative of Lira city council pledged solidarity towards Otto Isa’s initiative.
Many locals in Lango have expressed their disappointment over the poor state of Lira-Kamdini road that they said the government should work on as soon as possible.
On Wednesday the members of Lango Parliamentary group notified police and relevant government stakeholders of their plan to demonstrate against the poor state of Lira-Kamdini road if government does not take action in the next twenty four hours.
On Wednesday evening, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja directed Uganda National Roads Authourity to immediately work on the road.
