Lira City.
Residents of Boke ward, Lira city east division have given government a two-week ultimatum to connect the area to the national electricity grid, else they will demonstrate to show their disappointment towards delays in executing the project.
In 202O, electricity poles were erected in the areas of Adidikgweno B, Adidikgweno A, Lelapeta, Adagayela, Lela atar, and Opwakere, but up to now, the areas have not been connected.
Some of the landlords in these areas have complained that their houses are being rented cheaply due to absence of power.
Patrick Okullu Okeng said they will be left with no option but to demonstrate against the government since the project has been delayed without a clear explanation and the poles that were pegged have not been connected to electricity.
Jimmy Francis Odongo said government should now consider dismantling the poles from their land that they offered for the project if it cannot fulfill its pledge to the locals.
Some of the locals decried loud music being played by some of the area leaders under the watch of security and this is contributing to moral decadence among children.
Lira city Mayor Sam Atul said he has not yet received information from government on the status of the project but acknowledged receiving complaints from people over delays by government to connect electricity in some areas.
