Headteachers of schools in Lira city who will be found to have failed to perform their duties stand a risk of demotion to classroom teachers.
Speaking as chief guest at a ceremony to welcome S1 and S5 students of Leo Atubo College Ngetta, Dr. Jaspher Abura the Lira city principal education officer warned head teachers against laziness and laxity to perform their outlined roles as they will be demoted to class room teachers.
According to Dr Abura for underperforming headteachers, the education department will have no choice than to demote them.
He also warned to take stern action against teachers who will fail to perform teaching roles.
Rev Father Michael Aguzu Aribo of Ngetta Catholic parish in his homily during the mass at the event warned students against drug abuse which puts their future at stake.
He also decried low uptake of education at universities and higher institutions of learning by girls from northern Uganda which is a threat to development of the region.
The proprietor of Leo Atubo College, Daniel Omara Atubo blamed poor performance in some schools on teachers engaged in teaching in more than one school which leaves them with little time to concentrate on delivering service effectively.
