Okii Amat clan leaders have removed from office the clan head, Dr. Richard Nam replacing him with Tommy Ojan Ekits in interim capacity as they prepare to elect a new clan head.

Addressing the press at Hotel Rehema in Lira city over the weekend, clan chiefs and sub clan chiefs of Okii Amat cited various reasons for deposing Dr. Nam.

Peter Obonyo, the clan head of Okii Amat for Agago and Pader district said the clan constitution requires the clan head to lead for only three years but Dr. Nam has been in office illegally since his tenure was supposed to end in 2012.

Obonyo who is the clan chief in charge land matters said since he came into office, Dr. Nam has not met the clan members to consult them and reportedly amended the constitution to rule for life

Obonyo said they have resolved to hold election for a new clan head to replace Dr. Nam

The clan chief of Okii Amat in charge Otuke, George Acar said Dr. Nam has never convened a clan meeting since coming to office, adding that they engaged him and brought to his attention that Okii Amat clan is in support of election of Dr. Engineer Michael Moses Odongo Okune as the new Lango paramount chief elect.

However, Dr. Nam accused Peter Obonyo and his group of fanning conflict in the clan after being allegedly bribed, adding that their resolution does not represent the clan view

He said the current clan constitution allows the clan head to stay in office for 15 years, adding that Obonyo and group are free to join other clans if they are not comfortable in Okii Amat clan.
