A group of leaders and civil servants from Lango who visited State House-Entebbe last week have shared details about their meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The delegation, was composed of 11 members, including; Francis Opio Okello Dano Mabor, the Presidential Advisor on Lango Affairs, Geoffrey Etwop, the NRM treasurer for Lira District, Paul Camkoma, the chairperson of the Lira District Land Board, Anthony Ojuka, a former Lira Sub County councilor representing Anai residents, and Daniel Okello, the Speaker of Lira City West, among others.

Geoffrey Etwop, the NRM treasurer for Lira District, stated that their discussions with the president focused on land-related issues, particularly the challenges faced by locals living near the Anai airfield.

Anthony Ojuka, the former councilor for Lira City West Division, emphasized that the group also addressed concerns about land encroachment affecting 30 local residents near the Anai airfield and the Ilwa Forest Reserve where residents have been forcibly evicted.

Daniel Okello, the Speaker of Lira City West Division, said that the group discussed land issues in detail and reached several important resolutions, which he described as vital for the region’s development.

The group rejected social media reports suggesting that they had informed the president about the Lira City RCC, Lawrence Emmy Egole, accusing him of prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of the people.

During a hand hoe distribution event in Ongica and Acwao wards in Lira City East Division, Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development Betty Amongi Akena, who was also present at the meeting with the president, stated that Minister of Lands Judith Nabakooba would be visiting Lango to investigate the issues raised.

While speaking on the Wimeja program on Voice of Lango FM recently, Fred Bamwesigye, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, assured that local residents affected by the Anai airfield project would be consulted before the project begins.
