The Board of Governors of Lira Town College has stopped Lira City businessman Sam Sira Okello Ocero from using a building near the school’s gate for business operations.
The school’s board secretary, who is also the head teacher, stated that they decided to halt Okello Ocero’s use of the building until a meeting with him is arranged.
According to Levy Abongo, the school head teacher, Okello Ocero had written to the school in 2022 requesting permission to establish an agent banking service on part of the school land but has not reported back or paid rent for the building since.
He said efforts to meet him have been unsuccessful.
Jackson Aggrey Etwop, a board member and the chairperson of the school’s land committee, emphasized that they would not tolerate anyone trying to grab school land.
Richard Obura, who sub-rented the house from Okello Ocero at 1 million shillings monthly, accused him of forcefully evicting him from the house and destroying his property.

Sam Sira Okello Ocero, however, explained that he had an agreement with Lira Town College to return the building to the school leaders once construction was completed.
He also stated that he evicted Obura due to non- compliance to pay of rent and indiscipline.
