The Inspectorate of Government has threatened to arrest the leaders of Mesco Limited, the company contracted to upgrade Abia Health Center II to HCIII, if the project is not completed within ten days.
In 2021, the government awarded the company a contract worth Shs 630 million to construct a maternity ward and renovate a laboratory at Abia Health Center III in Abia Sub County, Alebtong District.
The project, initially scheduled to take eight months, is still unfinished after four years.
On Wednesday, officials from the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) visited the facility and found significant issues, including incomplete work, uninstalled water tank, floor holes, and the contractor abandoning the site.
Dr. Annet, the Director of the IGG, stated that if the work is not completed within ten days, the company officials will be arrested.
Similarly, challenges were also observed in the Shs 649 million Anara Health Center III project, which was being carried out by Power and Bay Company.
Alebtong District Chairman, David Kennedy Odongo, attributed these issues to the Ministry of Health awarding multiple contracts to the same contractors.
Odongo emphasized that they have instructed the contractors to return and address the faults identified in the project.
