Minister Amongi unveils Shs.2M Health Insurance Plan for communities in Lira City

The Minister of gender, labor and social development Betty Amongi Akena has revealed plans to introduce health insurance scheme of up to shillings 2Million per annum for the communities of Lira City.
According to Amongi, the intended beneficiaries, will contribute a premium of shillings 40,000 in order to benefit from this scheme and it will also cover their immediate families.
The Minister made the pronouncement Sunday afternoon, at Acikwot Primary School, in Angwet Angwet ward, Lira City east division during the distribution of maize seeds to the local residents.

Amongi said she is already engaging a United Kingdom based non-governmental organization that is willing to partner and provide funds for the health insurance scheme in collaboration with identified private health units in Lira City
She urged those who are willing to subscribe to the scheme to register with her teams and that the scheme will first be piloted in selected wards before full scale enrolment.
The secretary for community based services of Lira City who also serves as Minister Amongi’s political assistant, told reporters that a total of 12 tones of maize seeds have so far been distributed to the small holder farmers of Lira City.
Odongo added that the main aim of her principal is to enhance food security and increase house hold income through urban farming.
The UPC Chairman for Lira City, Simon Opio Okaka in his address says as a party, their vision is to contribute to social economic development of the people through different approaches.
