Former Lira District Chairman, Alex Robert Oremo Alot, has expressed concern over the continued government’s delays in compensating Lango war claimants.
In the last financial year, Deputy Attorney General Jackson Karugaba Kafuuzi announced that Shs15 billion would be allocated for cattle compensation to 10,000 verified war claimants in the Lango sub-region.
However, Oremo Alot lamented that many of the verified claimants have died without receiving their compensation due to the persistent delays.
He called on Members of Parliament from the Lango sub-region to engage more actively with the government to ensure the timely compensation of war claimants.
Recently, the Minister of State for Northern Uganda, Dr. Kenneth Omona, revealed that the government has now earmarked Shs150 billion for cattle compensation across the regions of Lango, Acholi, and Teso, with each region set to receive Shs50 billion.
