Lira City.
The Police in Lira City have arrested the top leadership of Power Forex International for allegedly conning hundreds of millions of shillings from their customers.
Those arrested include the company Chief Executive Officer Nuwagaba Herbert and his other staff Tamale Rogers and Mutesesira Moses.
The trio were arrested from Kampala on Monday and brought to Central Police Station Lira after over 2,000 clients lodged complaints of fraud and obtaining money by false pretense against them.
The regional police spokesperson for North Kyoga Region Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed to Voice of Lango fm the arrest of the top three company officials adding that a general enquiry file has been opened against them at CPS Lira under GEF 51/2021.
Okema says the police will forward the files to the resident state attorney for perusal and advice. He says once the files are sanctioned the suspects will be paraded before the courts of law.
Some of the affected people who pleaded for anonymity told Voice of Lango that power Forex international, an online trading forex company asked them to save money from 100,000 shillings and promised that they will earn 2.7% interest on a daily basis from their deposits.
Some of them said they were being paid 62,000 every two months for every 100,000 shillings as interests on deposits saved with the company.
They however say after earning some money from the company for some time, they were told that there was no more money to pay them. They say the money they lost to the company could amount to over 20 billion shillings.
Emily Susan said she invested and lost over 2 million shillings in the company.
