134 road accidents were registered by North Koiga region police in the last two months.

This was revealed by the Regional Traffic Officer of North Kioga SP Okwir Mathias Mulumba at a road safety training for motorists organized by Good Motor Driving School at Lira city Hall.

Okwir said the Road crash was registered between August and September 2023 in which 35 lives were lost and 140 injuries recorded.

Director of Good Motor Driving School David Okello said the training was meant to support efforts to curb road accidents ahead of the festive season.

Okodi Mustafa Okao the chairperson of Lira Taxi drivers and Odongo Sam the chairperson of Lira city Bodaboda Association expressed hope that the training will go a long way to curb road crashes.

Uganda predominantly relies on the road to move goods and people. However, this dominant mode of transport is unsafe.

The 2018 Road Safety Performance Review states that; the country loses about 10 people daily in road traffic crashes, the highest level in East Africa. The causes range from poor condition of vehicles to poor road use.
