Kamdini loses 40 acres of wetland to Businessman

A prominent businessman in Loro Town Council, Oyam district is on the spot over allegation of cultivating 40 acres of wetland in Kamdini Sub County.
Locals of Kamdini Sub County have accused Okullu Ocere of encroaching a public land in Boroboro, Pukicar parish.
They said Okullu Ocere had also marked boundaries of the wetland and they have since reported the matter to Oyam RDC who consequently barred cultivation of the wetland.
They however say, to the contrary; Okullu Ocere has continued to cultivate the wetland.
Tom Ojede, a brother to Okulu Ocere during a meeting to resolve the matter requested that his brother should be allowed to use the wetland for only this season to recover money used in cultivating the same.
But locals rejected his plea, accusing Okullu Ocere of acting outside the law on many occasions.
Eveline Awino who reportedly hired out part of the wetland to Okulu Ocere pleaded to be pardoned and asked locals to help her to refund the money back to Okullu.
Nommy Otieno the LCV councilor of Kamdini and speaker of Oyam district warned Okullu Ocere to stop cultivating the wetland until another meeting is convened to resolve on the matter.
William Komakec the RDC of Oyam said he has directed the district environment officer to survey the wetland that Okullu is reportedly cultivating and take necessary action.
