Too many Ugandans, Kabaka Mwanga and Omukuma Kabalega played a crucial role in Uganda’s anti-colonialism struggle.

Today, Government has begun the process of developing a tourist site in Kangai where Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda and Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom were arrested while fleeing British rule in Dokolo district.

Kabaka Mwanga and Omukama Kabalega hid in Kangai in the 1890’s but were later captured by the imperialists.

Leaders of Lango and Dokolo district had for long been requesting government to develop the area as a tourist site to boost revenue for Dokolo district and Lango at large.

David Odyambo the then Town Clerk of Dokolo Town Council earlier said plans were underway to table the idea before the main Council in order to allocate funds to develop the same.

Dokolo district later instituted a tourism committee to work with government to ensure development of this historical site.

Recently, ministry of tourism begun sourcing for a company to develop the tourist site.

Dokolo district spokesperson Musafiri Suwed said the district tourism committee visited Kangai and documented the site and wrote to government to develop the same.

Musafiri asked locals of Dokolo and Kangai Sub County to put in place developments to host tourists who will be visiting the area.

After the completion of the site, this will greatly benefit the local people by improving on the market of the locally produced goods and boost local revenue from the tourists to improve on service delivery
