Apac Seed SS student injured in police shooting during strike

One of the students of Apac Seed SS, in Akere division, Apac municipality has been admitted at Apac general hospital where he is nursing a bullet wound he sustained after being shot by police during a students’ strike on Monday.

Students of Apac Seed SS went on strike following a misunderstanding between the school administration and one of the students called Chris Odongo, who is in senior four.

James Akeba, the school head teacher said the strike started after the school authorities summoned Odongo to resolve some issues but the student did not comply and instead opted to remain in the dormitory.

He said other students who were in support of Odongo then begun throwing stones on the roofs of buildings at the school, forcing the school administration to call in police to calm down the situation.

Rogers Kapere the district police commander of Apac confirmed that one of the students was shot as police tried quell down the irate students.

Kapere warned students against engaging strikes which he says is illegal, adding that police will take stern action against such students.

Apac Seed Secondary administration has meanwhile closed down the school and sent their 1,179 students back home. 

Apac Seed Secondary school is among some of the seed schools being established by government as part of efforts to have a secondary school in each Sub County or division to bring education services closer to the populace.
