The contractor who was awarded a contract for the upgrade of shs800 million, Anyomorem Health Centre III, Lira City East Division has abandoned the project.

A section of Lira City East Division leaders who went to launch road rehabilitation projects in Anyomorem yesterday found the contractor, WML Consult had abandoned the project for the last two months.

Lira City East Division mayor, George Okello Ayo castigated the contractor for abandoning the project despite being paid by government.

The Town Clerk of Lira City East Division, John Steven Kasada said the company was supposed to complete the project last year but up to now they are yet to complete work.

The deputy RCC of Lira City East Division, Steven Odongo said they will sit with Lira city council leaders to forge a way forward on the matter.

Martin Onyanga the chairperson works and technical services committee of Lira city East Division said structures at Anyomorem health center III have now been inhabited by goats and cattle after the contractor abandoning the project.

Lira City Council engineer, Eng. Freddy Owiny said they will take stern action against the contractor.

Meanwhile some of the people who offered labor during construction at Anyomorem Health Centre III said the contractor had not paid them.

Effort to speak to officials from WML Consult on the matter was futile by press time.
