UTB tips Lira hoteliers on standards, improved services

Lira City.
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has tasked proprietors of lodges, restaurants, hotels and recreation grounds in Lango to improve their facilities to profit from tourists visiting the area.
At a meeting held at Hotel Good News today, the Uganda Tourism Board sensitized hotel owners on benefits of registering their business, getting operation license from Uganda Tourism Board, classification of their business among others.
In her remarks,Angella Naluga, the classification and registration Officer at Uganda Tourism Board asked hotel proprietors to recruit competent people with ability to deliver effective services.
Uganda Tourism Board is currently training hotel owners and managers from Northern Uganda in the cities of Arua, Gulu and Lira on grading and classification of accommodation facilities.

The intended objective according to UTB classification officer Angella Naluga is meant to raise awareness among hoteliers about the importance of hotel grading and classification, and encourage hoteliers to get their facilities registered, inspected, licensed and graded to meet regional standards.
Naluga says adhering to standards ensures consistent quality, professionalism, and trust among tourists, driving competitiveness and enhancing the country’s reputation as a desirable destination, leading to sustainable economic benefits.

Richard Okello Odyek the Commercial officer of Lira City called on proprietors of hotels and recreation facilities to improve their facilities to attract more clients vis a vies profits.
Lira City currently has more than 200 Hotels, and accomodation facilities with a combined 2,000 bed capacity according to data from the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lira branch.
The region also boasts of over 10 tourism sites and destination.
