Kwania Prison authorities on the spot over death of inmate

Authorities of Kwania government Prison farm are on the spot over death of an inmate aged 27-30 years.
The deceased, who has been identified as Felix Alele reportedly tried to escape from the farm on Thursday 30th April 2024, and was allegedly tortured, where the prisoners had been taken to offer labor.
Alele later died after being rushed to the hospital under unclear circumstances.
Ambrose Okori the LC3 chairman of Nambieso Sub County who is also a brother to Alele told Voice of Lango that they were summoned by the prison authority and were informed that their family would be given a postmortem report ascertaining the cause of death of their brother but that they waited for the same in vain.
Godfrey Komakech, the North Kyoga regional prison commander when contacted confirmed the incident but further referred our reported to Uganda prisons service spokesperson.
Frank Baine, the Uganda prisons service spokesperson said he got reports about the death of Alele who reportedly tried to escape from prison.
He warned prisoners against escaping from lawful custody and asked the relatives of Alele to seek legal redress.
