Lira Catholic Diocese is seeking for UGX 1.5 Billion to fund the renovation and expansion of the Bishop’s official residence.

The bishop’s residence was constructed in 1964 and has now lasted for 58 years.

In November last year the ground breaking ceremony for the renovation of the bishop’s residence was conducted at a function presided over by the Diocesan Ordinary.

During the event to mark the Diocesan Golden Jubilee Celebration which was concluded in 2021, the diocese used over UGX 2.5 Billion to renovate and expand Uganda Marty’s Cathedral Church Lira, but could not renovate the old and dilapidated Bishop’s House due to lack of funds.

Addressing a joint press conference Wednesday afternoon at Apostolic Social Center Lira City Wednesday, The Chairperson of the finance committee who is also the Chancellor of the Diocese, Rev.Fr. Emmanuel Opio says the Bishop’s house is now old and need’s urgent renovation.

According to Fr Opio, the new residence will have the meeting hall, curia offices, priests houses and the guests wing for the Bishop’s visitors.

According to the chancellor, the diocese plans to kick start the reconstruction of the bishop’s residence in April urging Christians and well-wishers to support the project.

He also cautioned people against some unscrupulous and malicious fraudsters who may take advantage and con money from unsuspecting Christian and well-wishers.

The Diocese has opened a collection account at Centenary Bank to help put resources together for the project.
