Lira district has been dragged to court over sell of a private land located on plot 27-28 Wacha Olwol road in Senior Quarters in Lira City East division.

Amos Nyanga the land owner has dragged Lira district to court over the sale of his land.

Nyanga said district land board offered him a lease for land on plot 27-29 Wacha Olwol road in 2015 and he got its title.

Nyanga said he delayed to utilize the land and his lease offer expired in 2020 during the covid-19 pandemic and he was stuck in Kampala.

On 1/3/2021, the chairperson Lira district Land board Paul Cankoma and the acting land board secretary Francis Okello Olwa wrote to Nyanga Amos notifying him that he had cancelled his lease offer since he failed to erect an 80 million shillings house on the land as agreed.

Nyanga said he did everything possible to extend his lease offer for further 20 years in vain.

Nyanga said when he started ferrying building materials, he was
informed by someone that Lira district land board had retrieved the land and sold it to him.

He said the person brought in police who stopped him from constructing on the land.

Nyanga said he tried making formal complaints with Lira district land
board but they were out of office.

He later went to Lira district CAO
Ogwete Otim who also failed to assist him and he proceeded with plans
to build on the land, only to be stopped by the second owner of the said land again.

Francis Okello Olwa the secretary Lira district land board said Nyanga
failed to utilize the land within the time it was leased, and they had to repose it.
