Lira City West Division councilors have expressed fear that the funds that the World Bank provided for USMID projects may be returned back to the central treasury as this financial year comes to a close and the contractor has not completed work.

The councilors raised the matter in a meeting with Lira city council and Lira City West Division officials over the construction of boundary road that is said to have been narrowed.

James Mugisha the chairperson works and technical services of Lira City West Division said this financial year is about to end in July and the contractors of USMID roads project may fail to complete the projects in time. He said this may see the funds returned back to the central treasury

Bonny Otim the councilor of Obuto Welo Ward called for accountability into the utilization of the USMID funds.

Patrick Awaongo the councilor of Odokomit said Boundary Road should be reverted back to 20 meters as earlier planned.

Zuena Opolot the secretary community based services of Lira City West Division warned against misuse of the USMID funds as culprits will be followed with the law.

Mike Ogwal of Kakoge, said the project contractors lack equipment to carry on with works and may not beat the project deadline of 15 months

Lira City, Engineer Freddy Owiny said the contractor will be given more time to do the work if they fail to beat the deadline.

Lira City West Division Mayor, Michael Ogwal Aconga said people who are along Boundary road whose property have been affected by the project have allowed the expansion following a meeting they held with them.
